São Paulo's building
Brazilian British Centre
The Brazilian British Centre was built by the Cultura Inglesa São Paulo to bring together, under one roof, all the organisations and activities related to culture, education, leisure and trade between Brazil and the United Kingdom, including the administrative headquarters of Cultura Inglesa São Paulo.
It was inaugurated in 2000 in the presence of the then Governor, Mário Covas. Designed by Botti Rubin Arquitetos Associados, the complex covers a total area of 13,000 square metres and is currently the venue of the Duke of York Theatre, with seating capacity for 160 people, four exhibition galleries, a library specialised in contemporary British literature, together with an Information Centre about the United Kingdom, a restaurant with capacity for up to 400 people, a bar and deck, meeting rooms for individuals and groups, and the following institutions: the British Consulate General, the British Chamber of Commerce, the BBC (British Broadcasting Corporation), the British Council, Visit Britain, the British Commonwealth Community Council and the administrative headquarters of Cultura Inglesa São Paulo.
