Consul General
Tim Flear MVO is the HM Consul General in Rio de Janeiro since July 2006.
Born 22 January 1958.
Graduated in History from the University of Manchester (1980). Entered the Diplomatic Service in 1980, where he initially worked in the Southern Africa Department. Studied Arabic before a posting as Third Secretary in Dubai (1982). Worked in the Middle East Department, FCO (1985-1987). Was third and then Second Secretary (Chancery), Kuala Lumpur (1987-1991). Returning to the FCO in 1991, became Assistant Private Secretary to a Minister of State in 1993. First Secretary and Head of Inward Investment Section, and then Head of Chancery, in Seoul (1996-2000). Back in London in 2000, worked in Public Diplomacy Policy Department and subsequently as a Deputy Head of Consular Directorate (2003-2005).
Awarded an 'MVO' (Member of the Royal Victorian Order) by Queen Elizabeth II in 1989.
