Other locations in Brazil
Besides the main diplomatic mission – British Embassy, located in Brasilia – the British Diplomatic mission is formed by the Consulates General at Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo, and 12 Honorary Consulates wide spread throughout the country.
The British Consulate General in São Paulo was the first British Consulate General established in the country, in 1966. Currently, the Consulate is located at the British Brazilian Centre (CBB) and its main duties are to offer commercial services for both Brazilian and British companies, improving the bilateral flow of business and investment.
Rio Janeiro was the first district capital of Brazil and until 1983 had the headquarters of the Embassy (before it was transferred to Brasilia, the new capital). Since then, the Consulate General in Rio de Janeiro is responsible for coordinating the consular and visa services in the country.
To support the diplomatic and commercial work carried out in the country, there is a wider network of British Honorary Consulates and Trade Offices in 12 Brazilian cities. The Honorary Consulates look after British interests, in general, in the district they are based in, and carry out a number of consular services. Trade Offices identify opportunities to develop trade between the UK and Brazil.
