Foreign Secretary's Diwali message (16/10/2009)
Foreign Secretary, David Miliband, sent his good wishes to all those in Britain and around the world who are enjoying the Diwali celebrations.
David Miliband said:
"I am very pleased to send my good wishes to all those in Britain and around the world who are enjoying the Diwali celebrations in the coming days.
Diwali is a wonderful festival of great significance to our friends in South Asia and the various communities here in the United Kingdom. Diwali brings us together to celebrate a spirit of companionship and happiness, and this is also a good moment for us to remember just how that diversity and variety enriches life in Britain today.
Diwali also reaffirms a clear message of hope to humanity, as signified through the imagery of bringing light into darkness. And it comes at a time when we all face enormous global challenges and need to stand together.
Wherever you are with your friends and families, I wish you a happy Diwali."
