Where do I obtain a Certificate of No Impediment?
The certificate NO IMPEDIMENT (Atestado de Estado Civil) can be obtained at the nearest British Embassy, Consulate or Honorary Consulate personally or by post.
This document requires 2 steps:
1. The issuing of the NOTICE OF MARRIAGE - 21 days publication of your intention to marry.
To have this document issued you will need to send or to present to Consular Section:
Your documents
• Your original passport
• The decree absolute of your divorce (copy - this document is not mandatory as you will need to show it to the local notary)
• The names of your father and mother
• Proof of your address (utility bill)
Documents - fiancée or fiancé
• Her original ID or birth certificate
• Names of her father and mother
• Proof of her address (utility bill)

2. The issuing of the NO IMPEDIMENT NOTARIAL DECLARATION - issued after the publication.
